Civil War Monument

In the town square several years ago the Town of Honaker erected a monument to veterans of the World War. Last year we marched from the town hall and laid a wreath at the foot of the monument. We also had a reception for Veterans at the Town Hall.
This year the Town Council has allowed Camp 840 and The Russell County UDC to place a memorial there to honor those from Russell County that fought in the Civil War. We will have the ceremony to dedicate this marker on Saturday, November 10, 2007.
A reception for all military veterans will begin at 11:00 am at the Honaker Town Hall. at 12:00 we will march to the flag pole on Main Street where a wreath will be placed at the veterans memorial honoring those men and women that have served our nation in the US armed forces. Following the placing of the wreath will will dedicate the newly erected stone marker honoring all those Russell County men who served during the Civil War.
Below you will find the article which will be placed in the local paper. Thank you Janice Busic for preparing the article and contacting the newspaper.
Also thanks goes to the Honaker town Council for allowing us to honor our Civil War by placing a memorial near our Veterans Memorial. We also apreciate the use of the Town Hall.
All UDC members, SCV members, Civil War redactors and their families are invited to join us in this celebration as we honor our veterans. If you wish to wear period dress and help us fire a salute to our veterans we could use your help. Members of the VFW, AMVETS are also planning to attend and will help us with our salute. Feel free to wear either Confederate or Union uniforms.
Please put this date down on your calendar and help us if you can. For more information email me at csreenactor@verizon.net . Also feel free to foreward this email to others on your mailing list that may be interested
